Marine Invertebrate Biology

Second semester. Students will be required to attend lectures and practical classes in MB2080.

This subject studies the biology and taxonomy of those invertebrate groups that have a significant representation in the local tropical marine environment. Both larval and adult stages will be studied through an integrated series of lectures, workshops and field trips.
Learning Objectives:
- become familiar with the range of marine invertebrate phyla and their tropical representatives;
- have a working knowledge of the major taxonomic features that are used to identify each group;
- the biological and environmental significance of these invertebrates;
- use of specialist library resources in invertebrate studies.
Assessment by a practical book; field note book; seminar; library exercise; project. All assessable work has to be completed within one month of the end of the subject.
