Historical, sociological and philosophical aspects of sport are studied in depth. A special emphasis is placed on developing an understanding the role of the Olympic Movement — the history and impact on modern society.

Learning Objectives:

  1. develop an appreciation of the historical aspects of sport;
  2. explore and develop an understanding of the sociological aspects of ancient and modern sport;
  3. complete a thorough investigation of the ancient and modern Olympic Movement.

Assessment by field research project (50%); a two-hour examination (50%).
