Learning Objectives:

1. provide a framework for understanding the history of northern Australia and the historical relationships between this area, Australia as a whole and the wider world;
2. foster an appreciation of the cultural diversity of northern Australia and of changing attitudes toward this cultural diversity;
3. foster competence in research appropriate to level 3 studies;
4. develop skills in the organisation and expression of research findings appropriate to level 3 studies.

Assessment by one 2,500 word essay (20%); one 5,000 word essay (40%); seminar presentation (10%); examination (30%) .
