French 3A Intermediate

39 lectures, 13 tutorials, 13 self-access practice hours. Second semester.

Available to students who have passed FR3001 or have an equivalent knowledge of French.

General French language appropriate to the objective outlined below.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to take students to a level of basic social proficiency (approximately 2 on the ISLPR scale). Students will be able:
  1. to interact on a social level with French people, participating in conversations where they are familiar with the context and where their interlocutors reduce slightly the speed of their utterance. Reasonable comprehension and comprehensibility will also be possible over the telephone;
  2. to handle most situations dealing with travel and living in a foreign country;
  3. to carry out reasonable written correspondence mainly in a formal register.

Assessment by in-class tests and/or end-of-semester examinations: listening (25%); speaking (25%); reading (25%); writing 25%.
