39 lectures, 13 tutorials, 13 self-access practice hours. First semester.

Available to students who have passed FR2002 or have an equivalent knowledge of French.

General French language appropriate to the objective outlined below.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to take students to a level approaching minimum social proficiency (a notional 2- on the ISLPR scale). Students will be able:
  1. to make reasonably detailed explanations of their areas of social interests;
  2. to respond with simple questions to native speakers speaking at a slower rate who are talking about themselves in a similar way. Sentence structure will have expanded to express wishes and commands affecting other people;
  3. to get the gist of television and magazine materials aimed at native speakers.

Assessment by in-class tests and/or end-of-semester examinations: listening (25%); speaking (25%); reading (25%); writing (25%).
