Integrated Early Childhood Curriculum

20 lectures, 10 tutorials. First semester.

This subject takes as its particular focus the development of the early childhood educator’s skills in critically reflective practice, as the basis for the construction of integrated curricula in early childhood contexts. This subject takes a problem-based approach to student learning, which is action oriented. Students will be engaged in the building, analysis and critique of models of integration in early childhood curriculum. Throughout subject activities, students will be expected to draw extensively upon school and/or centre based professional experiences, and to explore the dialectic relationship between theory and practice.

Learning Objectives:

  1. extend skills and understandings of critically reflective practice;
  2. build, analyse and critique models of integration in early childhood curriculum;
  3. continue to explore the dialectic relationship between theory and practice in early childhood curriculum.

Assessment by negotiated assignment: individual presentation (70%); negotiated assignment: group presentation (30%).
