Ore Genesis

Prerequisites: EA2200 EA2300

38 lectures, 36 hours practicals. Second semester.

Staff: Professor N Oliver, Dr P Williams, Dr T Baker.

Processes of ore formation, including the geochemistry of ore-forming fluids, wall-rock interactions and fluid migration; the styles, attributes and geological context of mineralised rock–systems; philosophy and techniques of exploration geochemistry.

Learning Objectives:

  1. to give an understanding of the nature and origin of metalliferous ore deposits and to provide an introduction to exploration geochemistry as a discovery technique.

Assessment by a three-hour combined practical/ theory examination (80%); practical exercises and assignments (20%).
