Introduction to information systems and electronic commerce including: organisational information requirements; the relationship between organisations, information systems and the environment; types and components of information systems; introduction to systems development.

Learning Objectives:

  1. describe the information needs within an organisation;
  2. identify and discuss the relationship among the various types of information systems;
  3. describe electronic commerce, including electronic data interchange;
  4. describe the components of information systems and the various systems configurations;
  5. describe the steps in developing an information system and the alternative approaches to developing systems;
  6. demonstrate an ability to solve problems using end-user systems development tools.

Assessment by assignments (20%); test (20%); final examination (60%).
