Subject Description

    This subject examines the socio-political, organisational, and cultural context for working with children and families. The subject will introduce you to major theoretical perspectives, consider issues of practice in the field of child protection and family violence, demonstrate understanding of child protection law, family law and family violence legislation, and assist you to develop the skills necessary for ethical and reflective practice.

Learning Outcomes

  • critically analyse practice issues pertinent to Indigenous child welfare
  • analyse and evaluate historical, social, legal and cultural contexts of social welfare practice with children and families
  • demonstrate and apply knowledge and skills relevant for ethical and reflective practice with children and families
  • demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the current issues in child and family practice and understanding of the child protection law, family law and family violence legislation
