Subject Description

    This subject introduces students to the concept of intercultural learning through participation in an international learning experience relevant to their course. Students will engage in preparation activities as an essential prerequisite for understanding and interacting with people from different cultural backgrounds. Students will participate in a range of education and community-based projects in an international setting and reflect on and evaluate their learning on return to Australia. This subject includes an excursion in country for internal students for which students will incur an additional cost.

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate the ability to critically reflect upon self, and in particular, aspects of cultural self
  • critically engage with concepts of culture and cultural difference
  • evaluate the implications of intercultural understanding for future professional practice and /or life contexts
  • apply respectful intercultural communication and interaction

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Test/Quiz 1 - (10%) - Individual
  • Field Trip - New Colombo Plan - (60%) - Individual
  • Written > Reflection/reflective task 1 - (30%) - Individual

Assumed Knowledge:  Students must have completed 24 credit points before enrolling in this subject.
