Subject Description

    The main objectives of the Honours program in Sport and Exercise Science are to facilitate the development of the students scientific understanding, practical laboratory skills, independence and advanced knowledge via the completion of an independent project and the production of a thesis. This process involves project design, ethical clearance, data collection and analysis of original data pertinent to the scientific investigation of a research topic. It further involves advanced scientific understanding and practical laboratory and/or field work to determine factors such as physiological and performance outcomes in response to a research question

Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the design, conduct and evaluation of independent research
  • Demonstrate skills in information retrieval and critical analysis of published scientific material used in the field of sport and exercise science
  • Demonstrate the skills required for independent study and research in one specific discipline of sport and exercise science
  • Demonstrate individual written and oral presentation skills for effective communication to a range of audiences

Subject Assessment

As this subject is part of a subject chain, a final standard grade (e.g. P, C) will only be recorded for each subject after successful completion of all parts of the subject chain.

  • Oral > Presentation 1 - (25%) - Individual
  • Written > Thesis/dissertation - (75%) - Individual

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties.
