Enrolment is restricted to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Speech Pathology, Speech Pathology IHCAP Program and the Bachelor of Speech Pathology Honours Programs.

Subject Description

    This subject further develops students' clinical knowledge, skills and professional attributes with an emphasis on ongoing professional and clinical skills development, in an authentic external clinical placement setting. Students will participate in clinical placements with supervision and guidance from clinical educators. Students will work directly with individuals, families and communities who experience communication and/or swallowing difficulties across the lifespan. Students will have the opportunity to develop clinical education skills.

Learning Outcomes

  • reflect on one's own clinical competence with reference to the behavioural descriptors and exemplars in COMPASS (Generic Professional Competencies 1-4 and CBOS 2011 Units 1-4)
  • conduct effective speech pathology services for individuals, families and communities who experience communication and/or swallowing difficulties across the lifespan
  • behave professionally and ethically and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the clinical placement setting and the Professional Standards for Speech Pathologists in Australia
