Subject Description
- This subject will provide the foundation theoretical and professional skills necessary for competent practice in the assessment and treatment/management of language impairment in children and adolescents. This subject will also explore aetiological factors, models, and processes contributing to language differences and impairment. Implications across linguistic and cultural contexts, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander populations, will be considered. Assessment and intervention methods will be explored with respect to current theories and evidence-based practice principles. The effects of language impairments on a child's activity and participation will be explored.
Learning Outcomes
- describe the factors that may contribute to language differences and impairment in children and adolescents
- describe and justify appropriate child language assessment approaches
- analyse and interpret child language assessment data and determine intervention goals, ensuring that all levels of the ICF are taken into account
- formulate and justify intervention plans and approaches based in sound theoretical and evidence-based principles

Special Assessment Requirements
