Applicants must have completed an AQF Level 7 bachelor degree at an Australian University or hold an equivalent international entry level qualification in a health profession such as: Dietitian/Nutrition, Clinical Exercise Physiology, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Psychology, Radiography, Speech Pathology or Social Work. Note: Completion of the subject will not enable Australian registration of overseas qualified health professionals.

Subject Description

    Students in this subject will complete a research project on a topic to be agreed between the student and the Postgraduate Coordinator. The project will be supervised by a member of the academic staff with knowledge on the topic of choice. Students will learn skills in proposal writing, ethics, data collection, analysis and scientific writing.

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate and apply advanced skills to review and critically appraise literature relevant to the chosen research topic
  • demonstrate advanced skills in analysis of the data collected and extraction of logical conclusions from the research results
  • apply research methods appropriate to the field of study in which the research project is situated
  • ensure that research is conducted in an ethical manner
  • communicate the research findings using advanced written, presentation and oral communication skills
  • at an advanced level, design and undertake research in a systematic and scientific manner

Subject Assessment

As this subject is part of a subject chain, a final standard grade (e.g. P, C) will only be recorded for each subject after successful completion of all parts of the subject chain.

  • Oral > Presentation 1 - (20%) - Individual
  • Written > Thesis/dissertation - (80%) - Individual

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% inclusive of any penalties applied.
