Applicants must have completed an AQF Level 7 bachelor degree at an Australian University or hold an equivalent international entry level qualification in a health profession such as: Dietitian/Nutrition, Clinical Exercise Physiology, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Psychology, Radiography, Speech Pathology or Social Work. Note: Completion of the subject will not enable Australian registration of overseas qualified health professionals.

Subject Description

    Students in this subject will develop a research proposal on a health and wellbeing topic to be agreed between the student and the Subject Coordinator. A comprehensive critical literature review will also be conducted illustrating the student's thorough examination of the topic. The review will be supervised by a member of academic staff with knowledge in the topic of choice. Students will apply skills in literature searching, critical appraisal and synthesis, research planning, and proposal writing.

Learning Outcomes

  • design and undertake a critical literature review in a systematic manner
  • demonstrate advanced skills to review, critically appraise, and synthesise secondary research evidence relevant to the proposed research topic
  • extract, analyse and draw logical conclusions from existing research evidence at an advanced level
  • combine advanced knowledge to formulate and communicate a written research proposal

Subject Assessment

As this subject is part of a subject chain, a final standard grade (e.g. P, C) will only be recorded for each subject after successful completion of all parts of the subject chain.

  • Written > Literature review - (50%) - Individual
  • Written > Proposal - (50%) - Individual

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% inclusive of any penalties applied.
