Subject Description

    In this subject, students will gain hands on practice at tailoring and delivering a variety of evidence-based interventions across the lifespan, as appropriate to cultural contexts. Therapies covered in this subject centre on Cognitive Behavioural Therapies up to and including third-wave approaches, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Students will participate in interactive learning opportunities such as role plays and case studies to apply their knowledge and skills in preparation for future placement. Reflexive practice opportunities will be a focus in this subject to assist with the development of lifelong learning skills and personal and professional development.

Learning Outcomes

  • Apply and justify advanced psychological knowledge in the formulation and development of treatment plans for psychological disorders which include collaborative interprofessional practice, to facilitate quality outcomes for diverse populations
  • Demonstrate skills in the delivery of evidence-based interventions for client groups of varying age, gender, culture, and socioeconomic status
  • Select and tailor developmentally and culturally appropriate evidence-based interventions for individuals from diverse populations including, but not limited to, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
  • Reflect critically and respectfully on the practice of one's self and others working within the inter- professional health care team to develop quality practice, and to plan ongoing professional learning

  • Written > Case report 1 - (50%) - Individual
  • Written > Reflection/reflective task 1 - Individual
  • CBT skills demonstration 35%; written critique and reflection 15% - (50%) - Individual

Special Assessment Requirements

Pass requirements: pass every assessment item; attend all scheduled classes; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties.
