PY4112 - Ethics and Evidence-Based Practice

Subject Description

    Psychology as a discipline and profession is founded upon the scientist practitioner model. In this subject, students will explore the intersection between evidence-based and ethical professional practice in psychology. In doing so, the subject will explore current codes of ethics in a range of different areas and groups, including culturally diverse backgrounds. Students will also be introduced to the role of reflective practice and how this translates to professional practice in psychology.

Learning Outcomes

  • Critically reflect on one's self to demonstrate self-awareness and ethical practice in professional psychology
  • Create and appraise a learning portfolio to summarise areas of professional learning and development
  • Apply the APS Code of Ethics and principles of evidence-based practice to professional psychological practice

Subject Assessment

  • Oral > Presentation 1 - (20%) - Individual
  • Performance/Practice/Product > Portfolio - (40%) - Individual
  • Group oral presentation 20%; Individual written synopsis 10% and reflection 10% - (40%) - Group & Individual

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties; achieve a score of at least 50% for Part 1 of the portfolio assessment task.
