Available to psychology students who have completed three years of study and who have been accepted into level 4 of the psychology honours program. Except with the approval of the Head of School/Associate Dean, all subjects in a chain must be studied in consecutive teaching periods.

Subject Description

    Students are required to design and conduct an independent research project that culminates in a journal article. This subject involves regular meetings with a research supervisor throughout the course of the year; participation in professional orientation and the presentation of a paper based on the students research at an annual mini-conference.

Learning Outcomes

  • communicate a clear, coherent, and independent exposition of knowledge and ideas through advanced written and spoken English language skills to a variety of audiences
  • exercise critical thinking and judgement in the design and conduct of scientific investigations to address complex psychological questions with intellectual independence
  • use information technologies and advanced techniques to analyse, interpret, and report research findings and data and generate culturally responsive solutions to complex problems in psychology as evidenced through the development and completion of a substantive research project and writing of a journal article

Subject Assessment

As this subject is part of a subject chain, a final standard grade (e.g. P, C) will only be recorded for each subject after successful completion of all parts of the subject chain.

  • Full article draft; must submit hurdle requirement - Individual
  • Written > Journal article

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: submit all assessment items; achieve a satisfactory grade for the oral presentation; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties.
