Available to students enrolled in postgraduate psychology programs with the approval of the Head of School.

Subject Description

    Psychological assessment entails using psychological tests to assess various aspects of human behavior and cognition. Students will learn about the underpinnings of psychological tests, which include understanding test development processes, psychometric properties in terms of reliability and validity facets, and relevant ethical considerations. Assessment and testing approaches will be broadly introduced across major domains of psychology, such as cognitive, personality, clinical, and organisational psychology. Training in actual test administration and scoring is not the focus of this subject, but students will be given opportunities to experience and discuss upon certain psychological tests within class activities.

  • evaluate a psychological test
  • cite the ethical and cultural implications of assessment instruments
  • apply the basic principles of psychometrics including test construction, reliability and validity
  • discuss the strengths and limitations of the psychological testing approach

  • Written > Test/Quiz 1 - (35%) - Individual
  • Oral > Presentation 1 - (30%) - Group

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties.

Assumed Knowledge:  To undertake this subject, students must have successfully completed 12 credit points (four subjects) of level 1 study at tertiary level and 2nd year statistics subjects.
