Subject Description

    Diagnostic reasoning is a dynamic and active process in which clinical judgement or decisions are made based on a variety of sources. This subject explores the diagnostic reasoning and clinical decision making process required in the assessment and management of both acute and chronic patients. Critical analysis of client/patient data will be utilised to identify health priorities of patient care that may include appropriate referral to member/s of the multidisciplinary health care team.

Learning Outcomes

  • compare selected frameworks and theories in the application of diagnostic reasoning and clinical decision-making strategies for a range of clinical presentations
  • accurately articulate the ethical, legal and regulatory considerations regarding the selection, ordering, collection and evaluation of diagnostic test and procedures
  • apply diagnostic reasoning based on clinical symptomatology, health assessment findings, pathophysiology and diagnostic data to identify health priorities of treatment and care

  • Written > Case study analysis - (50%) - Individual
