Subject Description

    The student will explore the development of clinical governance and apply principles of this framework to contemporary issues in the student's own healthcare workplace. The goal of any healthcare governance framework is to enhance client care through transparent and high quality individual and organisational behaviour. As a participant in a healthcare organisation, the subject provides students with the opportunity to design and develop a plan of action for a project that will be used to improve client care.

Learning Outcomes

  • Define and apply clinical governance principles to achieve high standards of quality and safety in healthcare
  • Critically analyse implications of change, complexity, and ambiguity in the healthcare context in relation to governance
  • Describe the relationship between principles of governance and safety and quality in healthcare
  • Evaluate and apply the general principles of governance and professional responsibility relevant to the healthcare professional's role

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Test/Quiz 1 - Individual
  • Written > Essay (including multi-draft) 1 - (20%) - Individual
  • Written > Problem task - (30%) - Individual
  • Written > Project plan - (50%) - Individual
