Subject Description

    This subject will provide students with extended clinical experience to develop their role of the midwife in providing woman centred care in alignment with the NMBA Midwife Standards for Practice (2018). Students will apply their knowledge and skills to assess and plan evidence-based midwifery care in partnership with the woman. Decision making and reflective practice are emphasised to ensure safe and effective care is provided for both the woman and her baby in both hospital and community setting. Extended and applied midwifery practice will focus on normal with an introduction to the variations from normal.

  • utilise assessment data to identify, plan and review midwifery care of the woman and her newborn
  • demonstrate practical application of evidence based midwifery practice
  • evaluate own care through reflective practice
  • apply principles of woman centred care in the provision of midwifery practice
  • apply the NMBA Midwife Standards for Practice (2018) in the provision of midwifery care

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; participate in at least 80% of tutorial classes and all clinical skills classes; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties; achieve a satisfactory grade for the portfolio assessment task, K2 modules and PEP; recruit two women for CCE.
