Subject Description

    Students in this subject are introduced to concepts of pathophysiology, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. Students further develop their skills in health assessment and management of individuals requiring perioperative care and experiencing pain and respiratory, cardiovascular, renal and integumentary disorders. Application of knowledge and skills in this subject maintains a focus on culturally safe person-centred care and the NMBA Registered Nurse standards for practice (2016).

Learning Outcomes

  • Utilise focused health assessment to identify variations from normal health parameters
  • Relate principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics to the management of individuals requiring perioperative care, and experiencing pain and respiratory, cardiovascular, renal and integumentary disorders
  • Apply knowledge of the pathophysiology of respiratory, cardiovascular, renal and integumentary disorders in the planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care
  • Apply principles of culturally safe person-centred care in the provision of nursing care
  • Apply the Registered Nurse standards for practice and the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards in the provision of evidence-based nursing care

Special Assessment Requirements

Pass requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties; achieve at least 50% for written examination; achieve satisfactory grade for medication calculation quiz and PEP; participate in at least 80% of scheduled tutorial classes/seminars/specified online activities and clinical skills classes. Exams may be scheduled outside regular university exam period.
