NS2555 - Digital Health Capabilities for Nursing and Midwifery

Subject Description

This subject examines the use of digital technology in health care. The capabilities required by nurses and midwives to use digital technology competently for safe healthcare are explored. Students will also evaluate how digital technologies in healthcare settings can enhance communication with the patient and within the healthcare team. Concerns related to the protection of privacy, confidentiality and security of health information and the effectiveness of social networking platforms in communicating health-related information are discussed with strategies to ensure information enabled healthcare is effective and contemporary.

• Demonstrate and evaluate digital health capabilities required by nurses and midwives
• Critically examine the application of digital technology in contemporary healthcare in Australia
• Examine legal and ethical challenges associated with the use of digital technology in health care
• Evaluate how digital health frameworks promote and sustain culturally safe person-centred health care

• Simulated telephone consultation (algorithms) and peer review - (40%) - Individual

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; participate in at least 80% of scheduled tutorials/specified online content; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties.
