NS2363 - Mental Health for Nursing and Midwifery

Subject Description

    This subject explores contemporary mental health issues across the lifespan with an emphasis on prevention and early intervention. Students will explore a range of therapeutic approaches used in mental health to establish a therapeutic relationship with the person who develops a mental disorder to underpin management approaches in a range of settings.

Learning Outcomes

  • Discuss principles of disease prevention and early intervention for people who are experiencing an altered mental health and/or addiction status
  • Apply cultural safety principles to facilitate person-centred care across the lifespan
  • Apply nursing and/or midwifery assessments and analyse interventions to assist people who are experiencing an altered mental health or addiction status
  • Identify barriers and enablers to developing a therapeutic relationship with people experiencing altered mental health and/or addiction status

Special Assessment Requirements
