Subject Description

    This subject introduces students to the application of culturally safe person-centred care. Skills in assisting with activities of daily living to promote patient independence are developed. The techniques of physical health assessment are practiced in a simulated setting.

Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate techniques used to assess physical health
  • Describe the precautions necessary to maintain a safe environment for the individual and the healthcare team
  • Demonstrate the performance of fundamental nursing skills
  • Apply the Registered Nurse Standards for Practice in the provision of evidence-based nursing care in a simulated environment
  • Outline principles of culturally safe person- centred care and its application across the lifespan

Special Assessment Requirements

Passing requirements: complete and submit all assessment items; participate in at least 80% of scheduled tutorials/specified online content and clinical skills classes; achieve at least 80% for the medication calculation; achieve a pass grade for exam; achieve a cumulative score of at least 50% after the application of any penalties such as late penalties. Exams may be scheduled outside regular university exam period.
