This module has been developed specifically for allied health professionals in the following professions; Clinical Exercise Physiology; Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Psychology, Social Work and Speech Pathology.

Subject Description

    This module builds rural generalist knowledge and skills in health coaching for consumers who are living in rural and remote communities and require support in achieving general wellness or specific health outcomes in the prevention and self-management of lifestyle related disease. Participants will enhance their knowledge and skills in evidence-based behaviour change principles and associated concepts including motivation, self-efficacy, stages of change, communication techniques and interventions, goal setting and action planning, as they relate to improving common lifestyle factors. Participants will explore health coaching models including benefits and challenges of integrating health coaching into clinical practice.

Learning Outcomes

  • Collaboratively formulate action plans designed to optimise care in the rural and/or remote setting in accordance with best practice guidelines and local service strategic intent by combining and integrating advanced knowledge of behaviour change and associated health coaching techniques and principles into clinical practice
