Prerequisites:This module requires access to a health professional within your profession, experienced in working with clients with complex osteoarthritis, who can act as a mentor and supervise assessment tasks and a client with complex osteoarthritis, including persistent pain, so as to demonstrate achievement of module outcomes in the appropriate clinical context.

This module has been developed specifically for allied health professionals in the following professions; Clinical Exercise Physiology; Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Podiatry.

Subject Description

    This module builds rural generalist knowledge and skills in service provision for clients experiencing complex musculoskeletal conditions who are living in rural and remote communities. The module will examine osteoarthritis as the primary example of a complex musculoskeletal condition with high prevalence in rural and remote areas. Participants will enhance their knowledge and skills in assessment, clinical reasoning, client management and self-management skills.

Learning Outcomes

  • Combine advanced knowledge of the aetiology, patho-anatomy, predisposing factors, clinical presentation and natural progression of musculoskeletal conditions and assessment and clinical reasoning skills, to formulate and communicate care plans designed to optimise care in the rural and/or remote setting in accordance with best practice guidelines and local service strategic intent
