MO1009 - Older Persons Health

Prerequisites:This module requires access to a client being an older person, ageing in place who is being impacted by an age-related condition, so as to demonstrate achievement of module outcomes in the appropriate clinical context. Conditions include incontinence, physical/functional decline, polypharmacy, under-nutrition or malnutrition or cognitive dissonance.

This module has been developed specifically for allied health professionals in the following professions; Clinical Exercise Physiology; Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Psychology, Social Work and Speech Pathology.

Subject Description

    This module provides participants with the opportunity to gain a solid understanding of health service provision for older persons ageing in place, in rural and remote communities. Participants will be guided through the ageing process, common age-related conditions and assessment and care planning for an older person within the context of inter-professional practice.

Learning Outcomes

  • Combine advanced knowledge of common age-related conditions and assessment and clinical reasoning skills, to formulate and communicate care plans designed to optimise care in the rural and/or remote setting in accordance with best practice guidelines and local service strategic intent
