Subject Description

    This subject is designed to deepen the mathematical content knowledge of those who intend to teach across the Foundation to 10 Australian Curriculum: Mathematics, with a focus on middle school content and pedagogies. The content in this subject is aligned with the six Mathematics curriculum content strands: Number, Algebra, Measurement, Space, Statistics and Probability.

Learning Outcomes

  • illustrate the role of context in mathematics and numeracy
  • investigate and communicate mathematics concepts and procedures using mathematical language, symbols and diagrams
  • develop strategies for teaching and learning which incorporate the Australian Curriculum: General Capabilities, including critical and creative thinking, and numeracy
  • use deep content knowledge to describe and explain the links between mathematics content areas in the Australian Curriculum: Mathematics

Subject Assessment

  • Oral > Presentation 1 - (50%) - Group & Individual
  • Written > Problem task - (20%) - Individual
  • Written > Workbook - (30%) - Individual

Special Assessment Requirements

A student must obtain an average of 40% over all invigilated components within the subject to pass the subject overall.
