Subject Description

    This subject explores the relationships between the various levels of government: freedoms under the Constitution; parliament, judiciary and the separation of powers; taxation and excise duties; Australia's relationship with other countries; the commercial powers.

Learning Outcomes

  • an awareness of the significance of the Constitution to legal practice and in everyday life
  • develop an ability to critically appraise political institutions, and acquire an informed view of the role of law in government
  • develop the ability to research and analyse primary and secondary sources
  • development of written and oral communication skills

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Examination (centrally administered) - (50%) - Individual
  • Written > Test/Quiz 1 - (10%) - Individual
  • Written > Research report - (40%) - Individual
