Subject Description

    This subject provides a blended theoretical and practical learning process to plan and conduct a substantial lifestyle and social medicine project. Students will have an opportunity to apply mastery of lifestyle and social theoretical knowledge and knowledge of research and evaluation principles and methods to plan and conduct a substantial project in their setting of choice. The project should involve the assessment of need and codesign with relevant stakeholders, background literature overview, implementation of the project, summary of outcomes, discussion of strengths and gaps, prediction of future clinical and research potential, as well as an oral presentation describing the project. The project can take place in a wide range of settings related to lifestyle and social risk or protection factors such as a health service, community, workplace, education or online setting. Students are encouraged to consider projects in varied geographic or cultural settings. Projects must result in the advancement of knowledge and practice in the field of lifestyle or social medicine. Students must seek approval from the subject coordinator for their project proposal.

Learning Outcomes

  • plan and conduct a substantial lifestyle and social medicine project in your setting of choice that demonstrates mastery of lifestyle and social medicine implementation and research methods
  • produce theoretical propositions, project findings, conclusions and professional decisions to specialist and non-specialist audiences

  • Oral > Presentation 1 - (10%) - Individual
  • Written > Critical appraisal/review - (20%) - Individual
  • Written > Project report - (70%) - Individual
