HS5003 - Population Health for Clinicians 3

Available to students enrolled in the Postgraduate Diploma of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, Postgraduate Diploma of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, Postgraduate Diploma of Rural and Remote Medicine, Master of Public Health, Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, Master of Public Health/Master of Business Adminis tration, Master of Rural and Remote Medicine. Must be a medical practitioner, Division of General Practice staff, General Practice staff or other health professional as agreed to by the Head, Mt Isa Centre for Rural and Remote Health (MICRRH).

Subject Description

This subject consists of three modules:<b>Aboriginal Health: </b>Designed by the National Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation Ltd (NACCHO). The burden and determinants of disease. GPs roles. Programs at community and practice level. Information systems. Responding to Indigenous health policy. Planning and evaluation. Screening and reporting. Risk evaluation. The contribution of poor Aboriginal health to national health data. Ethical research and consent.<b>Drugs and Alcohol: </b>The burden of alcohol and drug use. Preventive strategies. Intervention strategies in general practice. Shared care and coordination of services. Special needs groups. Co-morbidities and their management. Audit of practice.<b>Nutrition: </b>Accessing information. Determinants of nutritional status. National priority areas and policy. Monitoring nutritional status. Behavioural, familial and economic determinants. Nutrition policies and their local application. Practice audit of nutrition issues.

• Project (25% invigilated and 25% non-invigilated) - (50%)
