Subject Description

    This subject prepares students for university-level psychology courses. The aim is to give students a clearer understanding about the field of psychology. The topics covered will allow students to have a beginning understanding of what psychologists do, a history of the field, ethics and research methods, as well as how psychology is applied in our lives. The subject will also look at current issues and debates in psychology, as well as introduce different approaches within the field.

Learning Outcomes

  • Explain common terminology in psychology
  • Discuss different research methods and ethics in psychology
  • Examine psychology both historically and within current debate
  • Apply psychological principles to everyday life
  • Use appropriate register and writing conventions for a literature review

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Test/Quiz 1 - (30%) - Individual
  • Oral > Presentation 1 - (30%) - Individual
  • Written > Literature review - (40%) - Individual
