Subject Description

    This subject cascades from FS0100 - English Fundamentals 1. It provides students with further practice in the English Language and its application in various communication contexts. It will enable students to hone their skills in listening, reading, speaking and writing. Academic writing skills will be emphasized through activities such as research and writing of academic essays. Further, professional writing skills will be taught through activities such as letter writing, resume writing and report writing. The overall objective of the module is to get students to improve and upgrade their language ability in preparation for undergraduate programs.

Learning Outcomes

  • apply grammatical rules and a broad vocabulary to effectively communicate in writing and speaking
  • evaluate and organise diverse sources of information to effectively summarise the main ideas in a concise manner
  • produce comprehensive reports in various formats using appropriate language and writing conventions
  • demonstrate the ability to plan, organise and use appropriate format and structure when writing for different purposes and audiences
  • develop effective listening skills and the ability to synthesise and interpret information obtained from oral communication
