Subject Description

Mathematics is a discipline of science that is important to many fields, including natural science, engineering, medicine, and the social sciences such as economics and psychology. It is important for students seeking a university degree in any of the fields mentioned above to have a good foundation in this subject. This subject is designed to provide students with basic mathematical knowledge and skills that will equip them for their university level studies. This subject discusses the concepts on basic arithmetic, algebra, trigonometry, analytical geometry, and coordinates geometry.

Learning Outcomes

  • compute HCF, LCM, Prime factorization
  • analyse functions, graphs and linear relations, compute Matrix Algebra operations and apply the knowledge to solve the practical multi-variables problems
  • apply basic trigonometry and geometry principles to solve problems
  • illustrate the property of function by curve sketching
  • apply fundamental knowledge of algebra to compute factorization, substitution and transposition of both linear and non-linear equations
  • apply basic calculus concepts to analyse function and graphs, finding an area under a curve
