Subject Description

Engineering Practice subject gives students first-hand industry work experience in related engineering disciplines to produce job-ready graduates. In this subject, students are required to participate in a pre-placement orientation (e.g., a 3-hour face-to-face workshop covering unit logistics and workplace behavioural expectations) at the commencement of the teaching period. In Engineering Practice, students work in engineering projects in industries, under the supervision of a professional engineer for 130 hours. Students may work on one or more projects and be associated with one or more industries to meet the Engineering Practice requirements. Regular check-ins (online or in person) will be carried out by the academic staff during the placement. Students are required to keep daily work logs and weekly summaries to reflect upon personal and professional growth via a number of tasks. At the end of the placement, students are required to submit an internship report to demonstrate meeting all the learning outcomes of this subject. The placement performance form, daily work logs, weekly summaries, and internship reports are required to be approved by the industry supervisors and directly returned by the supervisors to JCU via specified platforms in Subject Outline.
