Subject Description

    This subject introduces contemporary concepts of career and career development, and develops the process of personal career planning. Students will explore their individual career aspirations, develop personal career goals, research career and employment trends in their preferred industries, and develop an understanding of the knowledge, skills, and capabilities required to support career success. With this knowledge students will undertake skills gap analyses to derive personal developmental goals and prepare an individual career plan to support development of a bespoke career narrative.

Learning Outcomes

  • critically interpret industry employment trends and contemporary workforce requirements to formulate data- based options for a personal career plan
  • formulate and demonstrate meaningful self-insight into personal career motivations, goals and development needs through the development of a personal career plan
  • evaluate the career relevance of core professional skills such as problem solving, professional communication and teamwork, and demonstrate these through the formulation of a personal career plan
  • describe a deliberate and viable plan for effective transition from higher education to employment as the commencement of a personal career plan

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Reflection/reflective task 1 - (35%) - Individual
  • Written > Research report - (30%) - Individual
