Subject Description

    This subject will foster graduate student teachers' development of the Digital Literacy Capability as required by the Australian Professional Standards for Graduate Teachers. This subject will develop an understanding of ways to use Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in secondary education to support students' learning. Graduate student teachers will be required to demonstrate an understanding of the relevant issues and strategies available to support the safe, responsible, and ethical use of ICT in teaching and learning. Upon completion of this subject, graduate student teachers will demonstrate how ICT can be used across the secondary curriculum and how they can use ICT in the subject areas in which they will teach. Graduate student teachers will plan learning experiences that provide secondary students with authentic opportunities to creating solutions, consider sustainable patterns of living and contribute to preferred futures for themselves and others with and through ICT.

Learning Outcomes

  • demonstrate an understanding of the affordances and opportunities of ICT for teaching and learning and effectively articulate and justify their classroom use of ICT
  • demonstrate a thorough knowledge and understanding of the contributions ICT can make in supporting a range of differentiated learning opportunities for diverse students
  • use ICT, including generic software packages, to manage, operate, investigate, create and communicate
  • evaluate and justify strategies to support the safe, responsible and ethical use of ICT in learning and teaching across discipline areas and classroom situations
  • plan learning experiences that provide secondary students in a selected curriculum area with authentic opportunities to apply social and ethical protocols and practices when using ICT

  • Written > Reflection/reflective task 1 - (40%) - Individual
