Subject Description

    This subject provides students with advanced knowledge and understanding about the ethical practice of educational leadership. Contemporary theories of effective leadership are examined and the elements and methods of leader development are defined. This subject focuses on a critically reflective, ethical and transformative approach to issues and practices of educational leadership. Students will identify, review, reflect on, and evaluate their leadership practices in a discontinuously globalised world.

Learning Outcomes

  • acquire knowledge of concepts, theories and models which underpin current successful educational leadership practices
  • critically analyse issues and literature concerning leadership effectiveness, review and evaluation
  • develop strategies for leading change in organisational processes and performance
  • critically review the ethics of educational leadership
  • frame and formulate a position paper relevant to educational leadership
  • reflect critically on professional and community issues in educational leadership
  • demonstrate advanced literacy and advocacy skills to interpret, evaluate and justify complex ideas and professional judgements to both specialist and non-specialist audiences
