ED5311 - Reflective Practice Research in Guidance and Counselling

Subject Description

This reflective practice research capstone subject is designed to support students as they complete their practicum in guidance and counselling. This subject emphasises the use of reflective practice research and includes a major research component in the form of a review of the literature. This review will focus on the ethical application of counselling with regards to the tropics, sustainability, Indigenous, intercultural, rural and regional wellbeing as well as disabilities and other forms of vulnerability.

Learning Outcomes

• reflect on issues that concern well-being in relevant contexts (e.g., the tropics, sustainability, Indigenous, intercultural, rural and regional) and their ethical application to the guidance and counselling field, including professional practice, in compliance with the Australian Counselling Association and Singapore Association for Counselling Codes of Ethics
• analyse empirical literature to inform an evidence- based approach to guidance and counselling practice
• evaluate and develop solutions for complex issues in guidance and counselling, and justify professional conclusions and recommendations to specialist and non-specialist stakeholders using a range of modes and professional skills
• critically reflect on one's own professional practice and that of others to facilitate individual and team skill development
• design and undertake research that addresses an identified gap in evidence-based research and practice in one's own professional context

Subject Assessment

• Oral > Presentation 1 - (25%) - Individual
• Written > Literature review - (40%) - Individual
• Written > Proposal - (35%) - Individual

Successful completion of Oral Presentation and Major Research Paper Proposal (Professional Oracy and Professional Literacy)
