Subject Description

    This subject seeks to position pre-service teachers as classroom leaders working within and across ecological spheres of practice; metacognitive of the impact of their own resilience and wellbeing on the social sustainability of their classrooms and communities. The subject utilises a Community of Inquiry model to develop capacity for professional dialogue. Successful completion of this subject will enable preservice teachers to work with a critical perspective within schools and the broader community, and available Networks of Practice or Professional Learning Communities, to contribute to and manage wellbeing and resilience initiatives within themselves, their classroom and the school community.

Learning Outcomes

  • 1. critique various education and school-based policies and actions for wellbeing and cyber safety
  • 2. describe a range of evidence-informed strategies that enhance the wellbeing and safety of the school community
  • 3. analyse and evaluate contemporary research pertaining to leadership and its application in professional learning and school contexts
  • 5. demonstrate collegiality and professional collaboration as part of a learning community to promote wellbeing in schools
  • 4. develop and apply critical knowledge and understanding of the theoretical base underpinning contemporary notions of resilience, wellbeing and mental health in school contexts
