ED4460 - Service Learning for Sustainable Futures

Subject Description

    This capstone subject integrates a meaningful community service project (minimum 50 hours) with learning experiences and reflection to develop and evaluate learning goals to support successful transition into the teaching profession. The service-learning projects will aim to strengthen communities with a focus that promotes social and environmental responsibility, aligning with the Australian Curriculum and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Pre-service teachers will explore a range of learning partnerships with community agencies, industry and business, preparing them for their role with students and in the wider community. Pre-service teachers have the option of local, national and international service learning experiences.

Learning Outcomes

  • 1. develop and evaluate learning goals to support successful transition into the teaching profession
  • 2. demonstrate professional engagement with colleagues and the community through provision of a service learning project that fosters sustainable communities
  • 3. apply the key principles described in codes of ethics and conduct for the teaching profession
  • 4. critically reflect on service learning and active citizenship to understand how community engagement promotes educational futures
