Subject Description

    This subject develops pre-service teachers' repertoire of professional knowledge of and skills in planning, teaching, assessing and evaluating senior secondary curricula, aligned with their first teaching area. Pre-service teachers will review and critically analyse the legislative, administrative and organisational policies and practices relevant to senior schooling, including the Queensland Certificate of Education and the Senior Education and Training Plan, and the significance of post-school destinations data for informing practices in senior schooling. They also explore the broad range of learning options and pathways available to secondary students as they transition in and out of senior schooling, including Vocational Education and Training, and critically examine the curriculum structures that serve to limit or enhance equitable outcomes for diverse students.

Learning Outcomes

  • 1. review and critically analyse the legislative, administrative and organisational policies and processes pertinent to senior schooling
  • 3. set learning goals and plan lesson sequences that include effective teaching strategies, resources and assessment that provide equitable and engaging learning opportunities for diverse senior secondary students
  • 4. identify a range of strategies that can be used to evaluate teaching programs to improve student learning
  • 2. apply knowledge of the concepts, substance and structure of developmentally-appropriate senior secondary curricula
