Subject Description

    This subject develops pre-service teachers' repertoire of professional knowledge of and skills in planning, teaching, assessing and evaluating senior secondary curricula, aligned with their second teaching area. Pre-service teachers will review and critically analyse the legislative, administrative and organisational policies and practices relevant to senior schooling, including mass education and the attainment agenda, and approaches to tertiary entrance. Special attention is paid to assessment in senior schooling, including the development of teachers' assessment literacies, internal and external assessment, formative assessment and student feedback, quality assurance and moderation.

Learning Outcomes

  • 1. review and critically analyse the legislative, administrative and organisational policies and processes pertinent to senior schooling
  • 3. set learning goals and plan lesson sequences that include effective teaching strategies, resources and assessment that provide equitable and engaging learning opportunities for diverse senior secondary students
  • 4. identify a range of strategies that can be used to evaluate teaching programs to improve student learning
  • 5. apply strategies for providing timely and appropriate feedback to students about their learning
  • 6. apply assessment moderation principles and practices to support consistent and comparable judgements of student learning in the senior secondary context
  • 2. apply knowledge of the concepts, substance and structure of developmentally-appropriate senior secondary curricula
