Subject Description

    Science education is a key component of Primary education. In this subject, pre-service teachers will engage with a range of learning experiences designed to enhance their confidence and competence to teach Science in primary settings. Pre-service teachers will develop their conceptual science understanding, as well as their technological, pedagogical and curriculum knowledge and skills, with an emphasis on teaching students from Prep-Year 6. Pre-service teachers will learn to identify the concepts, skills and dispositions that underpin Primary Science programs, and plan safe, engaging and authentic science learning experiences.

Learning Outcomes

  • 2. apply knowledge of student learning to set appropriate learning goals and plan a sequence of lessons that integrate assessment and effective science teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse students across the full range of abilities
  • 3. plan and conduct safe Science activities in primary settings, working within school, system and legislative requirements
  • 4. identify and apply appropriate literacy and numeracy teaching strategies in Science
  • 1. apply knowledge of the concepts, substance and structure of the F-6 Australian Curriculum: Science

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Test/Quiz 1 - (20%) - Individual
  • Written > Learning plan - (40%) - Group
  • Written > Lesson plan 1 - (40%) - Individual

Special Assessment Requirements

As part of the subject students will complete an online science content module and test via the learning management system. Students will work through online resources and may reattempt the online test multiple times. Students will need to demonstrate a satisfactory level of content knowledge to pass the subject.
