Subject Description

    This subject provides Early Childhood pre-service teachers' provides with an introduction to Design & Technologies and Digital Technologies, two subjects of the Australian Curriculum: Technologies learning area, and the Digital Literacy General Capability. Pre-service teachers will also engage with Technologies education in the context of the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline and the Early Years Learning Framework. Pre-service teachers will be able to approach the teaching of Technologies positively, including coding and online safety. Through a focus on pedagogical practices, pre-service teachers will develop and demonstrate a foundational understanding of the content and processes of Technologies education, including 'thinking in Technologies' (design, systems and computational thinking), project management, and how the Digital Literacy Capability is used to support Technologies learning. Pre-service teachers will also explore their role in influencing learning through planning experiences that provide early years children from diverse linguistic, cultural, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds with authentic opportunities to be successful learners, confident and creative individuals, and problem solvers.

Learning Outcomes

  • 3. apply play-based learning and the core concepts of the Australian Curriculum: Technologies to support young children's use of their imagination and creativity when using ICT
  • 1. apply knowledge of the concepts, substance and structure of the content of Australian Curriculum: Technologies (F-6) and how ICT is addressed in the Queensland Kindergarten Learning Guideline and the Early Years Learning Framework for children from birth to 8 years old
  • 2. employ a range of teaching strategies and resources for using ICT that expand curriculum learning opportunities and provide authentic opportunities to create solutions, consider sustainable patterns of living and contribute to preferred futures
  • 4. identify how the Digital Literacy General Capability can be applied to support the safe, responsible and ethical use of ICT in learning and teaching

  • Performance/Practice/Product > Multimedia production - (50%) - Individual
