Subject Description

This subject is designed to promote the skills necessary as a research or professional chemist whilst consolidating and enhancing the students' underpinning knowledge base. Students will select an area of topical chemistry research under the direction of one or more chemistry academic staff members. Students will conduct laboratory and/or theory based research to improve their practical and data interpretive skills. In addition, students will identify, understand and critically analyze the scientific literature of their chosen area. Students will be exposed to the peer review process, and develop an understanding of the indicators and attributes for quality research publications, relevant to chemistry. Students will further develop written and oral skills for effective communication of key concepts, techniques, and research status associated with the selected research topic for a variety of forums.

Learning Outcomes
