Subject Description

    This subject will introduce students to the role of the professional financial adviser in the areas of superannuation, retirement and estate planning including the context of social security systems. Students will develop knowledge of the establishment, management, taxation and legal requirements of superannuation funds, benefits and retirement income streams together with the role of the financial adviser in planning, distributing and providing for asset protection through Trusts, formalised estate and succession plans.

Learning Outcomes

  • describe and apply the Australian Superannuation Industry Supervision Act 1993 (SIS) legislation to the Australian context
  • research and apply relevant regulatory frameworks including social security and taxation issues to the planning of superannuation and retirement advice
  • critically analyse and evaluate strategies to provide advisory recommendations on superannuation and retirement planning in varied client contexts
