Subject Description

    The law relating to partnerships and companies in a business context. This subject is compulsory for students wishing to satisfy professional accreditation requirements in the accounting major. Please note that BX2112 is not an alternative to and not a substitute for LA3106, Company and Partnership Law

Learning Outcomes

  • Determine and analyse the legal obligations of company controllers
  • Determine and analyse the legal rights and obligations of persons operating partnerships
  • Explain and understand the legal requirements relating to the set up and operation of a company
  • Explain and understand the methods of terminating a company
  • Inform and critically analyse dissatisfied shareholders and other persons dealing with a company of their legal rights and forms of redress
  • Understand and analyse the law pertaining to data protection

Subject Assessment

  • Written > Examination (centrally administered) - (50%) - Individual
  • Tutorial/Workshop - (10%) - Individual
  • Written > Research report - (40%) - Group
